There’s a technology-enabled revolution underway right now that knows no borders and seems to have no limits (ASUG, 2016). This revolution is called Digital Transformation (DT) and with it, not only our lives and habits have changed, but every industry and organisation are required to change and adapt as well. DT represents the integration of digital technologies into every aspect of human society, allowing everything and everyone to be connected through the internet and mobile devices. To succeed in an ever more competitive global market, companies are now challenged to abandon traditional business methods and adapt to this transformation; in other words, the adoption of a new culture, a culture of innovation (Solis, n.d.) open to new ways of conducting business and communicating with their audiences, is now of paramount importance. This work aims to explore the topic of DT by defining it and presenting its major impacts, barriers and required investments, as well as the different steps to achieve digital maturity. Furthermore, the present study will be illustrated through the examples of two Portuguese companies, AdRA and Prokura, and complemented with the results of interviews to representatives of these organisations.
